Our Design Process is Intentionally Customized to Our Clients’ Style

The start of any luxury design or custom home project can be overwhelming. Many of our clients have busy lives and cannot dedicate a lot of time to the design process or construction phase of their project. PRD Custom Homes & Interiors has honed our design process to best serve our clients’ time and creativity. Every detail of our design-build projects in the greater Charleston area is intentionally curated to a client’s life and personal style.

Our projects are divided into two phases: design and construction. The design phase covers the majority of the details, discussions, and decisions required to execute a smooth construction phase. Our design team will think of everything in advance so that every step and detail will be outlined before construction begins. Our design process ensures that our customer’s lives are minimally impacted before finally stepping into their completed dream home at the conclusion of the project.

Learn more about our design process below:

Introductory Meeting

After you submit a contact form on our website, we will schedule an in-person consultation at your home or project jobsite.

In the introductory meeting, we will get to know each other and walk through the client’s home to discuss your overall ideas and to make sure we are a good match. Compatibility is an important first step in any luxury design project because we will be working together for some time and want you to feel comfortable with our process and our interior design team.

Design Concept and Mood Boards

The next step in our design process is the vision stage. In this phase, we’ll work with our client to define the design concepts that will be the outline for the entire project. Many of our clients use Pinterest boards to collect inspiration found online or share photos or Instagram posts with us to convey their thoughts. All of these options are a great start! But don’t worry if you do not know where to start. That is where our team comes in.

Our design team will be happy to walk you through a discovery process to help you define your style. We will use mood boards to help inspire you and define your vision. Then we can get into the selection process.

Design Details

One of the most difficult things that happens on some design-build projects is contractors will ask clients to make a decision last minute, causing them unnecessary stress. Our interior design team follows a well-developed process that walks our clients through any decisions or selections that need to be made with the goal of avoiding the stress of last-minute decisions and time/supply issues.

The selection process will include:

  • Cabinet plans
  • Electrical and plumbing layouts
  • Custom millworks
  • Special features

We will never pressure a client into a decision, but we will make creative suggestions designed to inspire our clients with unique custom features.

3D Renderings

Once we have completed the overall layout for design plans, we will provide you with a realistic representation of the concepts we have developed. We use 2D and 3D rendering software and visual portfolios to help clients envision their space. During the design phase we’ll also draw up elevations for plumbing and lighting plans, complete detailed cabinet plans, paint schemes, and walk through selections and custom finishings.

At the end of the design phase, we’ll draw up a detailed construction proposal covering all expected expenses. And just like that, your custom home is ready to be built!
